On January 15th, Bradley clarified that Empathic Abilities only work through touch. It requires him to put his hand on somebody to feel their emotion, and even then it doesn't work well. [1 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1266053715 - 1:10]

Bradley is able to feel the emotions from others through his Empathetic Link, so much so that at times they can cause Headaches and overwhelm him.
